Estrogen Therapy for Menopausal Symptoms

Estrogen therapy is the most effective treatment option for relieving menopausal hot flashes. Menopause is a natural stage in life. But you don’t have to accept suffering from the hormonal swings of menopause transition.

The key is to recognize and identify symptoms of hormone-related imbalance and seek treatment to set up your evaluation, including blood test to determine if relief is around the corner.

Menopause Symptoms

Menopause is a natural stage in life…but that doesn’t mean that most women look forward to it. In fact, the period before, during, and after menopause is frequently marked by wild fluctuations in hormone levels that can result in debilitating symptoms. After menopause, in the period known as post-menopause, the symptoms of hormone balance decrease, but studies have shown that women typically experience a dramatic increase in the risk of diseases like heart disease and certain types of cancer.

Below are some of the many symptoms of Menopause:

  • Vaginal Dryness
  • Painful Intercourse
  • Irregular periods
  • Chills
  • Sleep problems
  • Night Sweats
  • Hot Flashes
  • Bone Loss
  • Fatigue
  • Weight Gain
  • Low Libido
  • Memory Loss
  • Hair Loss

Menopause Diagnosis and Treatment

For the Treatment of menopausal symptoms, the balancing of hormones in the female body is key.  This balance will restore strength, vitality and quality of life. The Bio-identical estrogens are prescribed in combinations to re-establish the normal physiologic balance.  The estrogens are a group of related hormones, each with a unique profile of activity.

The three principle estrogens in human females are:

  • Estriol (E3)
  • Estradiol (E2)
  • Estrone (E1)

The use of one or more of the hormones is known as (ERT) or Estrogen Replacement Therapy. This therapy has been clinically proven for the treatment of premenopausal/perimenopausal/postmenopausal patients.

Besides problems like vaginal dryness and painful intercourse, studies have shown a decreasing risk of osteoporosis and colorectal cancer. The female body is like a symphony and when anyone instrument in the orchestra (like hormones) becomes out of tune or missing- the tonality of the symphony changes.  This is the same with the female body and the delicate balance of hormones. This is why BHRT is key to a balanced and healthy body!

Tests typically aren’t needed to diagnose menopause but in some cases where an under-active thyroid (hypothyroidism) is suspected your doctors might request blood tests to check your levels of:

  • Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
  • Estrogen (estradiol)
  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)

This is because Hypothyroidism can cause symptoms very similar to those of menopause.
